Kloster Eberbach

Golan Heights

Headquartered in Kloster Eberbach (Eltville) in the Rhein-gau, most of the 220 hectares vineyards were the property of the monastery since the 12th century. The winemaking tradition carried on after the monastery's secularization in 1803 through the Dukes of Nassau, then be-ginning in 1866 as Royal Domain by the state of Prussia and since 1945 by the Federal State of Hesse as proprietor of the wine estate. Today, under the management of Dieter Greiner, the wine estate owns three wineries at the Steinberg, in Assmannshausen and in Bensheim. The main varietal in the different locations is Riesling (80%), the others being Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris. The annual production reaches 1.8 million bottles.
