The Prinz Salm winery is the oldest family-owned winery in Germany, since 800 years and 32 generations. The es-tate, with its Wallhausen Castle, is located in the North-West of the Nahe wine region. In 1989 Prince Michael of Salm-Salm introduced organic cultivation of the 13 hect-are vineyards, emphasizing the winery’s tradition of close-to-nature farming. Today the winery is run by the two sons, Prince Constantin and Prince Felix. The vineyards, mainly on green and red slate soil, produce mostly Riesling (70%) but also Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Silvaner. The annual production reaches 70,000 btls.
